Wassup y’all it’s your boy Darius The Great tapping in with a real-time field report from the New Impressionz GoGo Brunch at Shark Bar this past Saturday the 24th.
Courtesy of my man Howie from In the House with Howie salute this was actually the second brunch they ran. I missed the first one, but I wasn’t missing this wave.
First off…
a GoGo at 10AM is different different.
We used to midnight sweat, hookah smoke, and streetlight energy.
This was sunlight, mimosas, grown folks vibes.
Same culture.
New frequency.
I pulled up clean though
Acne Studios beret (statement piece),
long trench courtesy of ASOS,
Uniqlo pants,
Stüssy crew,
Cartiers on the face.
Fit check: passed.
Vibe check: immaculate.
Soon as I walk in I holla at Howie, slide to the bar, grab a mimosa, some toast, eggs kept it light.
Ain’t nobody trying to two-step to the bathroom mid-socket.
This was a sexy vibe, not a digestive emergency.
Couple minutes later my brother Terrence pull up — former band member, real one already got a section with a mimosa tower looking like brunch royalty.
I dap up big bro Paul on security for New Impressionz, greet TJ, Jody, Spook family energy.
Then Half Band Half Amazing get to “sound checking” …
but you know how GoGo goes.
That “sound check” turned into a whole movement.
They start hitting Jimi Hendrix – Voodoo Child (shoutout Hulk Hogan nWo era)
flip it into a socket so nasty TJ had to say on the mic:
“Is this some WWE Monday Night Raw shit??”
And honestly?
It was.
That joint was rolling.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it louder now:
when it comes to socket and bounce energy, New Impressionz BEEN ahead.
But after this brunch?
I don’t even box them in as a “bounce beat band” no more.
They’re just a complete band.
And this set proved it.
They catered perfectly to the grown, daytime vibe heavy sockets, smooth transitions, intentional grooves.
Then they hit my personal favorite
Mos Def “Ms. New Booty” groove…
drop it off…
let the 808 ride…
slide straight into the Dr. Dre & Snoop “Nuthin But a G Thang” synth…
then flipped into the Beverly Hills Cop theme.
Pure creativity.
And that’s been my biggest gripe with GoGo lately
too much copy/paste, not enough imagination.
New Impressionz don’t suffer from that disease.
At all.
Halftime I told Yappah and TJ straight up:
y’all called a perfect set.
Saw my man Bo from TCB in the building too always good seeing real GoGo royalty in the room.
Second half kept cranking but I had to slide
right as Well Connected Terrence hopped on the drums and Bo grabbed the mic.
I already knew it was about to go crazy.
Overall?
Atmosphere: 10/10
Band performance: 10/10
Creativity: 10/10
Vibe shift for daytime GoGo: SUCCESSFUL
This brunch wasn’t just an event.
It was a rebrand of how GoGo can live in grown spaces.
And I’m calling it right now:
New Impressionz are the champs of the band circuit.
Hands down.
No debate.
If this is the future of GoGo brunch culture?
Yeah…
we in good hands.
Catch the next one if you smart.
If you miss it again that’s on you. 🥂🎶
